Bibliotherapy Sessions for Couples
More often than not, when couples come to see me, what they're seeking is connection (or reconnection with their partners).
Books are a wonderful way to connect (or re-connect) with each other; after all there's something intimate about sharing the pleasure of a reading experience together. And carefully selected books can often help us find meaning in our relationships and allow us to discover each other again.
Sometimes what we want our partners to hear is often found in the protagonist's words in a novel or in the crisp pages of a wonderful nonfiction book that's spot on with what we've been hoping to share with our partners.
Whether its serious therapy or light-hearted fun or simply the joy of reading together, a couples bibliotherapy session might be helpful or beneficial in rekindling that old connection. It could be listening to an audiobook together or reading aloud to each other. It could be discussing a book that you're both reading or listening to separately.
Prior to a bibliotherapy session, I'll email you some questions that I'll need each partner to answer individually. This will aid the preparation for the session itself, which is normally 90 minutes long.
The session will take into account your reading habits, goals, interests and personal needs. You'll be introduced to books that explore feelings you've never quite understood before - or books that bring new meaning, hope, perspective on an existing situation - or simply books that focus on a niche that you've been hoping to explore for a while but never had the time.
I specialise in fiction and both creative and narrative nonfiction as well as poetry and philosophy.
Upon purchase, I'll send the couple an email to schedule a mutually convenient time for our session. These can be in-person or virtual over Skype/Zoom depending on the couple's location and/or preference.
The bibliotherapy sessions for couples can also be gifted (just select ‘Gift Instantly’ above). It's perfect as an anniversary or Christmas gift for a special couple in your life. Alternatively it can simply serve as a helping hand for a couple who may benefit from it.
